Apple’s highly anticipated entry into the streaming music space was announced yesterday during the World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco.
Apple Music, is said to be a single, intuitive app that combines streaming, radio and listening of pre-owned music (whether downloaded or ripped from a CD). This idea of centralising music services into one location sets Apple Music apart from its competitors.
Just like it’s predecessor Beats Music, which Apple acquired in 2014, Apple Music is to be defined by curation. Apple have partnered with curators and tastemakers in every considerable genre – including DJ Mag – and will also allow more fact based curation, such as asking Siri to ‘play me the best techno tracks this week?’, or whatever.
APPLE MUSIC RADIO
One of the major Apple Music innovations is the inclusion of a radio service. This is headed by Beats 1; a 24-hour listening experience led by Zane Lowe in Los Angeles, Ebro Darden in New York and Julie Adenuga in London. Listeners around the globe will hear the same programming at the same time.
Apple Music Radio will also give you stations created by some of the world’s leading DJs – in every genre. With membership, you can skip tracks you don’t like, but keep the radio experience in place.
The service will launch on June 30th. Everyone can experience the service free of charge for 3 months after which subscription fee will apply. The charge for a single user is $9.99 per month or a family of six can get a joint subscription for $14.99.
